Victor Vasarely (Pécs, Hungary, 1906 – Paris, France, 1997)

Barson

1967

collage in colour / masonite, wood

250 cm x 250 cm

The collage Barson, like many other works by Victor Vasarely, documents the interest for art rooted in its own time, in social reality, and the contemporary city, which inspires the artist with its plastic functions that it finds in different spheres of life. Its interpretations, liberated from tradition, are plastically uniquely composed works of outstanding optical and kinetic characteristics, where colour has a decisive role. Vasarely’s extremely “busy surfaces” entirely depend on the optical movements that define them.
